John W. Burns is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. His practice has an emphasis in bankruptcy/creditors rights with a particular emphasis in corporate and small business services. He has also concentrated in the areas of transportation/trucking litigation and general liability, with experience in health care law and captive formation and management.

Mr. Burns has served as local bankruptcy counsel in cases such as the Mid-Valley and American Capital/Skinner bankruptcies and has represented numerous creditors and interested parties in bankruptcy court. He represents multiple small businesses and has assisted those businesses in areas such as entity selection and creation, compliance, non-profit establishment and tax exempt status, along with the preparation of all necessary corporate documents.

Mr. Burns has extensive litigation experience and has tried cases to verdict in the areas of general liability, automobile liability and transportation. He has litigated and tried dozens of arbitrations and multiple matters on the level of the minor judiciary.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Burns served as a clerk in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Memberships include the Allegheny County and West Virginia Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western and Districts of Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Burns has served as an instructor at the Academy of Court Reporting in Pittsburgh where he taught courses to students in the Academy’s paralegal, court reporting, and security/investigation programs.

After receiving his B.A. in health and math education from West Liberty State College in 1991, Mr. Burns graduated with his J.D. from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1999.
