Melissa M. Barr is an associate of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. She concentrates her practice in the areas of insurance litigation, including coverage issues and bad faith, agency/broker liability, personal injury, employment law, commercial law, and toxic torts, with a particular emphasis in insurance defense.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Barr served as a law clerk to Judge Charles E. McCarty, Fifth Judicial Circuit; an assistant prosecutor for Jackson County, West Virginia; and State Farm claim litigation counsel.
Ms. Barr is a member of the West Virginia State Bar. She is admitted to practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia, United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
In 2009 and 2010, she was selected for inclusion in the West Virginia Rising Stars® list of outstanding young attorneys which appeared in Virginia Super Lawyers® - Rising Stars edition magazine. No more than 2.5 percent of lawyers in the state are named to the Rising Stars list.
Ms. Barr graduated summa cum laude from West Virginia University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, in 1996 with a B.A. in International Relations and German. She received her J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1999.
