Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C. (DMC) is pleased to announce that Amee L. Mazzarese, Esq. is the firm’s recipient of its Annual David B. Fawcett Pro Bono Service Award. Ms. Mazzarese, an associate with the firm, is recognized for giving her time to those in need – a tradition and attribute of the award’s namesake, David B. Fawcett.

This is the sixth year for the award, and it is presented in honor of Mr. Fawcett’s memory. Five associates, in addition to Ms. Mazzarese, were finalists, based on their volunteer efforts:  Maureen K. Cosgrove, Esq.; Jason L. Ott, Esq.; Genevieve A. Pecharka, Esq.; Paul A. Roman, Jr., Esq.; and Ashley E. Sharek, Esq. Dickie McCamey associates each volunteer over 70 hours per year. Criteria for the award includes recommendations from program coordinators and results achieved, while satisfying all other duties within the firm.

Ms. Mazzarese invested a significant amount of volunteer hours in 2015 toward both the Best Interests Attorney and Protection from Abuse Projects. Her overwhelming commitment to the programs and the positive results she obtained for those she worked with earned her this year’s pro bono honor.

The firm’s associates volunteer their services to the following programs:  Best Interests Attorney, Protection from Abuse Project, Sharpsburg Neighborhood Table Clinic, and Federal Prisoners’ Rights.

This year’s keynote speaker was the Honorable Kathleen R. Mulligan, Senior Judge of the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. Judge Mulligan has been instrumental in getting Dickie McCamey associates in-court experience through the Best Interests Attorney program. Judge Mulligan talked about the work that is done for many of the families through the Best Interests program, “and sometimes what we accomplish is just a band-aid on the situation … but sometimes that band-aid is all that is needed.” She continued to talk about those infrequent cases in which there are ‘moments of grace’ which results in a positive change. Judge Mulligan addressed the finalists, “thank you for your band-aids and moments of grace.”

Ms. Mazzarese’s honor included a donation from the firm to a charity of her choosing. She chose the Neighborhood Legal Services Association (NLSA) to receive the gift.
